Caring for the dishwasher detergent receptacle

KitchenThe detergent tends to accumulate over time and you may find that twenty-four hours after cup of your dishwasher detergent will not open. The detergent acts like glue, sealing the cup. Cup of your dishwasher detergent is located on the panel inside the door of your dishwasher. Grab your sponge and a bucket of hot water and detergent cup clean inside and out. If this does not solve your problem, keep reading.

Understand how to operate cups of dishwashing detergent. The detergent is placed in the cup and the spring-loaded door is slammed. This keeps the dry detergent until later in the cycle. As the cycle progresses, a component triggers the spring, allowing the door open and release the detergent.

Not all dishwashers use the same mechanisms to open the detergent cup. Depending on your dishwasher, the components in this process include:

  • The clock and the bi-metal switch.
  • The clock and the wax motor.
  • Stopwatch.

The timer is responsible for the length of time your dishwasher runs in each cycle. The timer sends an electrical current to each component at a specific time and a certain length of time. When the timer indicates that it is ready for the detergent cup opens, send a current switch bi-metal alloy or wax motor. If your dishwasher does not have one of these components, the timer will activate the door release directly.

A switch is a bimetallic alloy electrical component located behind the dishwasher detergent cup. This switch consists of two different metals bonded together forming a flexible strip. An electric current is sent to switch bimetallic alloy, heating the strip. Since metals expand with heat, the strip is doubled. This opens the door to the detergent cup. A bimetallic alloy faulty switch will not expand enough to signal release of the door and the switch will have to be replaced.

Many sink manufacturers have replaced the switch with a bimetallic alloy wax motor. Actually there is wax in this small engine. The timer sends a stream and heats the wax inside. When the wax is heated, it expands and pushes a piston. The pressure of the piston releases the spring and opens the door to the detergent cup. If there is something wrong with the engine, you may have problems with your dishwasher when you release the detergent.

If your dishwasher does not have a switch bi-metal alloy or a wax motor, the timer also serves as the actuator. The timer activates a lever to release the door. If the lever is broken or damaged in some way will not work.

Try to switch bi-metal alloy or wax your engine if you have one. If you do not have one of these components or they are not the source of the problem, try to watch. You may need replacing.

Take care of your dishwasher and it will take care of you.
